Round 10     Sat June 20th  v  Leongatha at Traralgon

250 Senior Games

Jacob Wood

JACOB Wood joins a very exclusive club this week. The veteran is set to play senior game number 250 for Moe.

Only three men have reached this milestone in the club’s history (Peter Ainsworth, Chris Smogavec and Reno Fusinato).

The Wood Duck has been a durable inside midfielder across more than 15 seasons. Ever the professional, he has rarely missed a game, and is usually found putting his body on the line either between the arcs or inside 50.

Wood has played in six finals series for virtually a season of games in finals (15).  He was senior captain for six seasons from 2019 to 2024.

Achievements include two-time selection in the Gippsland League Team of the Year, and two Moe Football-Netball Club teams of the decade.

In more recent seasons, he has played as a high-pressure forward, and found a knack for kicking goals out of congestion. A fan-favourite due to his ferocious attack on the ball, the man known as 'Frank' will perhaps best be remembered for taking possibly the greatest mark ever seen at Ted Summerton Reserve. In a game against Drouin in 2021, Wood propelled himself from a long way back, jumped onto the shoulders of an opponent, and plucked the ball one-handed while flying sideways in mid-air.

Moe FNC has been a part of life for the Woods, with Jacob’s wife Carly also a 200 game netballer and life member.  Both have remained extremely loyal throughout the highs and lows of sport, and contributed greatly to the life and times of the club.

That contribution continues today, with the pair currently running Moe's Auskick centre.

100 Games  Aaron Wilson

This Diet Coke has been well-earned.  Aaron Wilson plays his 100th game for Moe this Saturday. The midfielder has been a mark of consistency, winning four club best-and-fairest (2018, 2021, 2024, 2025) and the reserves league medal last season. In and around these seasons, he also coached the reserves for four years (which as anyone who knows local footy will attest to, is a very long time) and is the team’s current co-captain.

A high possession winner, Az is a fiercely competitive player whose passion is unquestioned. As a youngster, he was a senior starter, before an unfortunate run of injury left him on the side-lines for a combined total of three years.

He has shown great resilience to return from each setback, and his loyalty saw him play in his first finals series for Moe last year. Elsewhere, he has played in a premiership for Newborough, and won another league medal - the Mid Gippsland reserves in 2016.

Remarkably, that accolade came just a year after he’d missed the entire previous season, and while he was just playing on the weekends during final year uni.   An engineer by profession and methodical trainer who specialises in long distance runs/rides, he has combined his high HQ and strong work rate to great effect on the football field.
